Participation Guidelines

We welcome new participants who have had some experience with Movements and an established practice for inner work.

The content of our Movements classes can be very demanding and the pace of presentation can be quite rapid.

As such, we consider the ability of every participant to remain attentive for prolonged periods and to cooperate effectively with the entire class to be prerequisites for study in this group.

The essential work during our retreat is not limited to Movements practice. We are committed to deepening our awareness and understanding of our relationships with ourselves, with each other, and with the greater community at large. Our pursuit of these values includes a variety of group and individual practices that may be suggested during the retreat. Because of the exchanges that are sometimes catalyzed by intensive practice, and because we value cultural diversity and open inquiry, we acknowledge that personal and/or interpersonal difficulties may arise during the course of a retreat. We view these dynamics as opportunities to learn and grow in a mutually respectful manner. New applicants should have a desire and willingness to participate in this kind of work.

We ask first-time applicants to submit (via e-mail) a 300-500 word application essay describing why s/he wants to attend and her/his past experience with Movements. It is especially helpful for the applicant to describe experiences with Movements intensives, participation with long term Movements practice groups, and connections with current retreat participants (if any). Through consideration of the application essay, and in some cases personal references, the retreat organizers seek to ensure that both the new participant and the ongoing project are well served by a new relationship.

Application essays are submitted in the registration form and admission is pending until notified of acceptance.
